The work has four strands. Girlhood and dignity. Pastor training. Slum ministry in Mukuru. A public voice that does not leave the household behind.
Mukuru holds more than 500,000 people, many in stone or iron-sheet houses along the old railway and beside the factories. From September 2018 Aurora Bible Centre, affiliated to Christian Leadership University in New York, trained pastors who live and serve there. The courses run from certificate to bachelor’s degree: counselling, leadership, hygiene, outreach, financial literacy, languages, business management, and ICT.
The girlhood strand started in the open. On 12 April 2021 sanitary towels reached an initial 100 girls. On 11 September 2021 the girls sat for “Facing challenges in my environment,” the first lesson in a series named Womanhood. The lesson counted a cost many boys never hear, and answered it with attitude: a slum address does not finish a life.
