Margaret Gichuki is founder and chief executive. In September 2018 she opened Aurora Bible Centre, the training work that became Aurora New Dawn Foundation. The centre is affiliated to Christian Leadership University in New York and works in Kenya, with Mukuru as its first field.
She has kept the work close to the people it is for. Pastors in Mukuru, including those who meet in Reuben, have been trained in church halls when a permanent college building was not yet standing. In April 2021 she led a visit that placed sanitary towels in the hands of girls. In September 2021 she taught the Womanhood lesson, “Facing challenges in my environment,” and left the girls with a harder hope than pity: a slum address does not finish a life.
She leads the institute’s certificates, diplomas, and bachelor’s study in counselling, leadership, hygiene, outreach, financial literacy, languages, business management, and ICT. The line she still uses for the work is the centre’s own: shaped to sharpen.
